Health
Parasite Control Project

 Parasite Control Project

Although parasites are easily cured, many children suffer and die due to the lack of preventative knowledge and medicine. Constant examination and medication is desperate needed as most of the children are exposed to an easily contaminated environment.

The Tanzania Parasite Research Team consists of four professors and assists in parasite infection examinations and medications to three regions: Korogwe, Lushoto, and Bulu. 40% of residents are infected by parasites. Good Neighbors also dispatched the team to Tanga, Arusha, and Daressalaam.

We performed parasite examinations to 3,534 elementary school students and community residents in 2005. We specifically were fortunate to help 346 residents who showed a positive reaction to the medication.

 Rafiki Daycare Center

The people of Madala in the outskirts of Daressalaam have an average monthly income of less than $40. Furthermore, their water service does not function properly. Infants and children are not receiving basic education.

Good Neighbors provides basic education to the 100 poor infants and children, and encouraging their social health by throwing monthly birthday parties and organizing outside activities. We also administer parasite examinations twice a year, and provide daily meals. Taking care of the children during the day, we are enabling parents of this poverty stricken area to find work.
