There is much to do in the country of Myanmar. As of 2008, the Government of Myanmar spent a mere 0.3% of its gross domestic product on health care. This is the lowest amount of GDP allocated to health care worldwide. Furthermore, outside aid for Myanmar is the second lowest per capital worldwide.1
Good Neighbors is hard at work to impact and reverse the conditions in Myanmar. Our presence in Myanmar is felt in the areas of education, health care and skill development. We believe that educational success of the children rests squarely on the provision of health care.
We have worked hard to address these needs by establishing the Children Education Center in Mingaladon. This center offers educational and health/nutritional services to the children of the community. This center caters to the needs of 150 children and their families.
The Children Education Center brings hope to this community. Not only does it meet the present, daily needs of the people, it also fosters growth and empowerment, by educating the children and allowing them to dream for tomorrow. We provide remedial and preventive health services, to ensure the continual growth and health of the children.
This is an essential service for the children of the community. We are constantly working to improve conditions, from raising awareness of basic hygiene and sanitation to raising the children out of the chronic poverty that afflicts them.
As you can see, the challenges that face these children and their families affect not only their present conditions but also cast forward into the future. Their hopes and dreams of a better tomorrow depend on their ability to get through today. Our vision is committed to providing the necessary health care to ensure their tomorrow. This vision of a better tomorrow can be yours as well.
This is a constant effort. We can't do this alone. Together, we can change the conditions of Myanmar, one life at a time.
