It’s been nine years since world leaders gathered and set far reaching goals to improve the conditions of those who suffer from extreme poverty, hunger, and disease. In many ways, it was a call to action to mobilize the global community to act and bring change to that segment of humanity still under the heavy yoke of these conditions. Targets were developed and partnerships forged in the quest to raise the bar of existence for the poor and vulnerable. These targets are known as Millennium Development Goals or MDGs.
Good Neighbors is committed to fulfilling the vision of the completion of these MDGs. We have implemented programs and mobilized both donors and volunteers to achieve these MDGs by its appointed time: 2015.
2015 is not far off. Even as we have made inroads, accomplishing much over the last decade, there is still much left to do. The recent unfavorable economic climate has cast its rippling effects on the completion of these goals. The extent of the repercussions, though not fully known, must still be accounted for as we press forward.
But even as plans change, the goal does not. Our eyes are continually on the poor and vulnerable, on the individuals whose lives are directly impacted by the work we do. Good Neighbors stands among the ranks of those who remain true to the MDGs set forth by the United Nations.
Just as we have answered the call to partnership with the greater global community, we encourage you to become involved. Even if it’s nothing more than raising awareness of the dire situations around the world, every little bit helps. There is much left to do.
