Good Neighbors: Characters

"Good Neighbors: Characters" will introduce a staff member from one of the international Good Neighbors offices across the world every other week. This issue we had the privilege of corresponding with Francis Mainda from Kenya. As some of you may already be aware, Francis has previously provided updates concerning the current status of Good Neighbors in Kenya. He has been a vital part of what Good Neighbors is doing here.

Francis, why did you decide to work with Good Neighbors?
There are many reasons. The major one is that the organization helps and assists the less fortunate and poor people in the society, and because I am from the same background, I decided to work in the organization. The second reason is because it is friendly: Both the staff and parents are cooperative and ready to transform the entire society.

What is your vision of what GN is trying to accomplish in your community?
Even as GN has its own goals, I'm sure that each individual staff member also has goals he/she would like to accomplish while working at GN. My vision is to see the entire community transformed so that the less fortunate people can have good lives and be self reliant. Also, it is my vision to have a society where no one suffers from starvation.

What is a typical work day of a GN staff member like?
The schedule of GN Kenya is very tiresome but enjoyable when one is well prepared and maximizes his or her time. But each GN staff member has his or her own approach to the day in whichever way so long as the daily activities are accomplished and well-executed.  Often we voluntarily work late hours because we care and love the children.

What do you think is important for sponsors to be aware of?
I think it is important for our sponsors and readers to keep the welfare and morale of the staff in mind. It’s not always easy and sometimes, we as staff members need a helping hand as well.
