Father and daughter heading to Haiti together

-Story of a volunteer family from Good Neighbors

Many calls were received from local communities in LA who want to participate in relief activities. One of them is the volunteer family of father and daughter, pastor Peter Kang from LA All Nations Church and Michelle Kang, Junior from Biola University.

“I was astounded at the site of earthquake while watching TV. I wondered if I could give them any help” Peter Kang said while having interview right after relief member orientation at the Good Neighbors LA office. In addition to role of translator, he showed his passion and eagerness on any help he might be able to give to suffering Haiti people.

“We should help them when we can. We might miss the right time and they can’t wait for us“, Michelle Kang said. She showed bright smile with confidence saying she is ready to handle any harshness during the relief activity.

Pastor Peter Kang (55, Korean name Seung Chul Kang) is currently serving for family ministry in LA All Nations Church. He has missionary experience in 49 countries including conflict regions such as Afghanistan. He is fluent in Korean, English, Spanish and Portuguese, lived 6 years in Brazil and 41 years in US after leaving Korea. Currently also working as an adjunct assistant professor at Fuller Theological Seminary, he will join the relief team as a translator.

Michelle Kang (21, Korean name Young Ae Kang) was born and grew up here in USA with missionary experience starting from youth as accompanied by her parents. She is currently Biochemistry major junior at Biola University and plans to apply to medical school. She has experience working as first aid personnel whenever she has a chance and she will be deployed as an assistant of medical relief team.

Departing at night of 19^th, the families bidding farewell shared warm hug from each other hoping for a safe trip. The father and daughter will be deployed for 2 weeks of joining the relief team at Haiti.

Good Neighbors is currently recruiting doctors, nurses and translators who can speak Korean, English and Spanish.
