GN Nepal |
||
| is located in the capital city of Kathmandu and works in cooperation with the local government and Good Neighbors Korea. We are focusing on developing local experts and local financial resources to establish a self-supporting system within the community. | ||
| Here's what we're up to in Nepal: | ||
| Child Development | ||
| Sangla Child Home | ||

The Sangla Child Home was established in August of 2002 in Sangla, which is just north of Kathmandu. Good Neighbors opened with 16 children who were either orphans or from struggling single parent households. Good Neighbors provides a comprehensive care program that includes supplementary education, meal services, and health care. Today we provide care to 50 children and are still planning to increase the scope of our services. In addition, we provide children's rights education and family development education to parents in order to improve the quality of life in families. |

Located in the southern part of Kathmandu, the Badikhel Child Home was established for the Ppahari tribe children who suffer from extreme poverty. We also began this home with 16 children, most of them orphans. We expanded our program in 2006 through KOICA's assistance. In the same year, two dormitories were built with the support of Aju University. |

| Badikhel Primary School | ||

|
In April of 2005, we established the Badikhel Primary School under the local name, Good Neighbors Academy. It took Good Neighbors a full year to prepare the school. Now, over 150 children who suffer from extreme poverty receive an elementary education, meals, and health care. We've recognized that the well-being of the children in this area depends on the parents. Therefore we also educate parents about the methodology of educating children as well as the importance of protecting children's rights. A systemized education became possible in 2006 when we expanded the library and science lab with assistance from KOICA. |

At present, about 70 students are taking classes. Once they graduate, they are able to contribute to the local economy. | ||

Good Neighbors works to decrease the illiteracy rate, almost 38%, by teaching 150 residents. We provide health care to 100 residents who need urgent medical care. We also operate a Cow-lending project to spur economic growth. over 250 households have been a part of the lending project. |
