Good Neighbors International (Myanmar)

Good Neighbors International began its journey in Myanmar in 2006 as the Mingaladon Children Education Centre in Mingaladon Township, Yangon Region. In 2008, the organization expanded its efforts to include humanitarian aid, partnering with the Myanmar Baptist Churches Union to support the Bogale community affected by Cyclone Nargis. This pivotal experience led to the establishment of the head office in Yangon in 2009.

Since then, Good Neighbors Myanmar has continuously implemented humanitarian assistance and community development programs across 10 project sites nationwide. The organization works closely with over 1,000 community development committee members and 155 volunteers, dedicated to improving the lives of those in targeted areas.

Our Actions

Currently, Good Neighbors International (Myanmar) is striving to support children and communities affected by the national crisis, focusing on improving child protection, education, food security, health, and livelihoods in targeted areas in Myanmar.

  • Child Protection: We enhance knowledge of child rights and protection for children and the community. Initiatives include child rights and protection awareness for child groups and child protection groups, strengthening child clubs, and the global citizenship program.
  • Education: We help children recover their learning losses from the national crisis, enjoy diverse and high-quality learning content, and access life-skills learning for youth. Initiatives include developing learning content, providing alternative school kits, and offering life-skills programs.
  • Food Security: We support people in targeted areas to build resilience for food security and ensure children do not suffer from malnutrition. Efforts focus on distributing food packages to the community and providing special nutrition support for children in need.
  • Health: We enhance people’s right to health in targeted areas. Operations focus on basic health care support for children and hygiene and sanitation awareness for children, youth, and the community.
  • Livelihood: We support the rehabilitation of livelihoods in targeted communities. Through the cooperative boosting program and small grants for businesses, community members can access financial services and promote local businesses.

Our interventions align with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Overall, we have significantly contributed to SDGs 2 (Zero Hunger), 3 (Good Health and Well-being), 4 (Quality Education), 5 (Gender Equality), 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation), 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), and 10 (Reduced Inequalities).
