Founded in 2019, Good Neighbours UK is a registered charity dedicated to empowering vulnerable communities to overcome poverty, disaster, and oppression. We accomplish this by mobilizing resources to support our partners and ensuring the effective delivery of humanitarian and development projects. Additionally, we collaborate with universities across the United Kingdom to conduct research on global challenges and raise awareness about these issues.
Initially, our efforts were focused on domestic projects within the United Kingdom. For example, we provided personal protective equipment (PPE) to grassroots organizations during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, established a community garden in York to combat social isolation in 2021, and worked with community groups to support refugees settling in the UK in 2023. Recognizing our expertise in international development, we shifted our focus exclusively to international projects in 2023.
Currently, Good Neighbours UK is implementing projects in seven countries, using a holistic approach informed by research. Our efforts empower children, women, and people of all backgrounds and abilities to lead their own development.
We are committed to empowering communities to meet their health, education, economic, and social development needs and to building their resilience to climate change. Good Neighbors UK prioritizes the following transformative actions:
Our interventions are aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Overall, we have contributed to five of the 17 goals, with the largest contributions being to SDG 3 (good health), SDG 4 (quality education), SDG 5 (gender equality), and SDG 6 (clean water).
