Celebrating 30 Years of Good Neighbors Kenya: Three Decades of Service, Solidarity, and Impact

Good Neighbors Kenya marks its 30th anniversary, celebrating three decades of commitment to children, families, and communities across the country.

Good Neighbors began its work in Kenya in 1995, starting in Korogocho, one of Nairobi’s largest informal settlements. The organization’s earliest efforts focused on supporting street children by establishing a children’s center that provided a safe space, basic necessities, and access to learning. What began with support for three children who were sponsored and enrolled in boarding primary school, gradually expanded to reach more children through informal and later formal education.

By 1997, Good Neighbors Kenya broadened its support by opening a medical clinic, providing essential healthcare services to vulnerable children and community members. In 2000, operations expanded to Dandora, responding to the needs of communities affected by hunger, disasters, and social exclusion, with a growing emphasis on long-term resilience and self-reliance.

Today, Good Neighbors Kenya works across multiple counties, including Nairobi, Kajiado, Narok, Kisii, and Siaya, implementing programs in Education and Child Protection, Health, WASH, Income Generation, and Advocacy. Through partnerships, including collaboration with Korea International Cooperation Agency, the organization supports 21,500 children and parents, helping communities strengthen their capacity to drive sustainable change.

Currently, Good Neighbors Kenya operates in seven Community Development Project (CDP) sites:

  • Nairobi County – Korogocho, Dandora, Mukuru

  • Kajiado County – Bissil

  • Narok County – Meguarra

  • Kisii County – Ogembo

  • Siaya County – Rarieda

Over the past 30 years, the organization’s work has reached 389,195 community members, with 18,345 children supported and protected through scholarships, reflecting a long-standing commitment to child rights and inclusive development.

As Good Neighbors Kenya celebrates this milestone, it also looks ahead continuing to work alongside communities to ensure that children grow up safe, healthy, educated, and empowered.
