Good Neighbours Australia

Good Neighbors launched its Australian office in 2018 to help protect the rights and wellbeing of children, while strengthening the families and communities they live in. In Australia, programs have focused on supporting people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, including refugees and minority communities, in collaboration with government agencies, corporates, philanthropic foundations, community-based organizations and volunteers.

Globally, child sponsorship support is directed to Vietnam, while community development projects and humanitarian aid are implemented through priority partners in Bangladesh, Mozambique, Philippines, Romania, Ukraine and Vietnam.

Our Actions

Good Neighbours Australia, which was accredited by peak industry body the Australian Council for International Development in July 2024, joins its international peers in collective action against poverty, working to create a just, equitable and sustainable world.

  • Child Protection: Through child sponsorship, we help children in Vietnam access essential services, like education and healthcare, while wrap-around support programs help strengthen their families and the communities they live in.
  • Economic Empowerment: Economic and livelihood programs upskill at-risk young people in hairdressing and barbering programs, while livestock farming enables families to become more self-reliant in Vietnam.
  • Education: Encouraging sponsored children to pursue their educational goals, our gift program recognizes academic excellence amongst economically disadvantaged students from remote and rural parts of Vietnam.
  • Emergency Response: Emergency response efforts includes financial support for the areas affected by various disasters, significant gift-in-kind for displaced people from Ukraine and settlement services for refugees and migrants arriving in Australia from Myanmar.
  • Health: In Australia, Good Neighbors’ healthcare initiatives focused on supporting minority multicultural communities during and post the COVID-19 pandemic with immunization campaigns, food and healthcare hampers and overcoming loneliness and social isolation, which were exacerbated amongst marginalized communities during the pandemic.
  • Water, Sanitation & Hygiene (WASH): We support in-field country offices to implement WASH programs with the installation of bores and water pumps in rural Mozambique, and construction of sanitation facilities for girls in remote schools in the Philippines and Bangladesh.

Our interventions are aligned with several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) with the most significant focused on SDG 1: No Poverty, SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being, SDG 4: Quality Education, SDG 5: Gender Equality, and SDG 6: Clean Water and Sanitation and SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth.
