Sydney, July 11, 2024 – Good Neighbours Australia, a core alliance in the Good Neighbors’ global partnership, has formally joined the Australian Council for International Development (ACFID), the peak body for Australian non-government organizations involved in international development and humanitarian action.
The Australian Council for International Development was established in 1965 with a vision of Australia acting with compassion and fairness for a just, sustainable, and equitable world. It comprises 129 members, all adhering to a robust Code of Conduct, which covers 9 Quality Principles, 33 Commitments, and 92 Compliance Indicators, spanning program effectiveness, fundraising, governance, and financial reporting.
Passing the ACFID’s extensive due diligence process, Good Neighbours Australia has demonstrated its capabilities for transparent and accountable operations, enhancing public trust. As a new member of ACFID, it will continue expanding its capabilities and increasing its impact on international development and humanitarian efforts.
Going forward, the organization will focus on leveraging collaboration opportunities and broadening its initiatives. “By joining ACFID, we look forward to collaborating with like-minded agencies based in Australia, enhancing our commitment to empowering people and transforming communities globally,” remarked Sylvia (Hyosil) Lee, Executive Director of Good Neighbours Australia.
Through its membership with ACFID, the organization reaffirms its commitment to international development and humanitarian initiatives and is poised to advance its mission to respect the human rights of neighbors suffering from poverty, disasters, and oppression, help them achieve self-reliance, and enable them to rebuild hope.
Good Neighbors launched its Australian office in 2018 to help protect the rights and wellbeing of children, while strengthening the families and communities they live in. In Australia, programs have focused on supporting people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, including refugees and minority communities, in collaboration with government agencies, corporates, philanthropic foundations, community-based organizations and volunteers.
Globally, child sponsorship support is directed to Vietnam, while community development projects and humanitarian aid are implemented through priority partners in Bangladesh, Mozambique, Philippines, Romania, Ukraine and Vietnam.
