Good Neighbours Canada

Good Neighbours Canada was founded in 2017 in London, Ontario, with the mission to raise awareness and funds for partner countries. Our primary objective is to work closely with communities, fostering collaboration and understanding to empower people and transform lives. We implement projects that support education, health, water and sanitation, income generation, and emergency relief campaigns. Recognizing that women and girls are disproportionately affected by crises, we emphasize gender equality and the empowerment of marginalized groups.

From the beginning, we have strived to strengthen our connections with nonprofit partners and donors and enhance our ability to support both international partners and marginalized people within Canada. Notably, we assisted over 100 Ukrainian refugees affected by the war in safely relocating to Canada.

Currently, Good Neighbours Canada is positively impacting communities through our Better Life for Girls, Child Sponsorship, Clean Water, and Social Enterprise projects. We aim to create a world free of poverty, discrimination, and harm, continuously engaging and supporting local communities to foster sustainable development and social cohesion. We collaborate with Global Affairs Canada, the City of Toronto, Employment and Social Development Canada, and other funding partners.

Our Actions

Committed to creating sustainable and community-driven change, Good Neighbours Canada aims to transform lives and break the cycle of poverty through its programs.

  • Child Sponsorship: Our Child Sponsorship program provides comprehensive support to children living in poverty, including nutritious meals, medical check-ups, hygiene kits, education, and school supplies. We also offer income-generating programs for their parents. Currently, it supports children aged 3-18 in Cameroon and the Dominican Republic, with active engagement from Canadian donors.
  • Health: We provide community-wide education and distribute menstrual hygiene kits in Cameroon and El Salvador to reduce menstrual stigma. We distribute hand sanitizers and KN95 masks in Haiti, the Dominican Republic, Vietnam, and Laos, and support crisis-affected children in Ukraine by providing toys for emotional support.
  • Education: We support empowerment programs for girls aged 10-18, providing technical skills, leadership training, and education on health and rights. These programs reduce gender inequality by equipping girls with knowledge and skills for economic and social independence. We also partner with countries to educate on gender equality policies and practices.
  • Clean Water: In partnership with Zambia, we support rural communities by ensuring access to clean water and training local committees on maintenance. In Canada, our Step4Water campaigns and participation in municipal events have reached about 8,000 children, promoting the significance of clean water.
  • Social Enterprise (Goods4Causes): Our social enterprise project, Goods4Causes, assists in the establishment and operation of small handcrafting businesses, creating opportunities for economic independence and improving social goals. We help newcomers, refugees, and people of color achieve financial stability by providing sales platforms, skills workshops, and networking opportunities.
  • Youth Engagement: We engage youth in supporting gender equality and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), promoting active participation and awareness of global issues. Our Youth Advisory Committee introduces innovative fundraising initiatives annually. We also host more than 10 summer and university interns each year, providing mentorship and hands-on experience in international development.

Our programs support 9 of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals for 2030, with primary focus on Ending Poverty (1), Good Health and Well-Being (3), Gender Equality (5), Quality Education (4), Clean Water and Sanitation (6), Decent Work and Economic Growth (8), Reduced Inequalities (10), Sustainable Cities and Communities (11), and Partnerships for the Goals (17).
