Good Neighbors has been working in Haiti since the devastating earthquake in January 2010, which resulted in over 200,000 deaths and left more than a million people homeless. In the immediate aftermath, we provided essential aid, including food distribution, first-aid, medical care, and psychosocial support.
In June 2010, we established an office in Haiti and initiated reconstruction efforts, focusing on building new schools and shelters. To address public health needs, we offered vector control support and hygiene training for local health workers, helping the health system operate effectively during cholera outbreaks.
By 2012, our long-term reconstruction projects included constructing new homes, public latrines, and wells in Oranger. We expanded these efforts to Port-au-Prince in 2016, continuing to build essential facilities and infrastructure to support the community.
