Good Neighbors Mongolia

Good Neighbors Mongolia was established in 2006. Due to harsh weather conditions, a nomadic lifestyle, and historical and diplomatic issues, Mongolia has faced widespread poverty, leading to unequal social development, environmental pollution, and challenging living conditions for children. Recognizing the vulnerability of children in these environments, Good Neighbors Mongolia initiated nationwide research on the Protection of Child Rights and has expanded its efforts to make Mongolia a child-friendly country.

We have been implementing community-focused projects based on the child rights and protection program in six districts of Ulaanbaatar city, as well as in Darkhan-Uul and Orkhon provinces. Thanks to the voluntary support of Mongolian citizens, volunteers, governments, non-governmental organizations, and international organizations, we have reached more than 233,000 children and their families in Mongolia, creating a positive impact on the communities we serve.

Despite the challenges posed by climate change, the pandemic, and social turbulence, Good Neighbors Mongolia has never hesitated to extend a helping hand wherever needed. We continue our community development initiatives to support children and communities in reclaiming their dignity.

Our Actions

Good Neighbors Mongolia is dedicated to establishing a system that respects and ensures child rights and protection. We have been implementing Community Development Projects within the framework of the nine main programs below:

  • Child Rights and Protection: We prevent potential harm, violence, and discrimination against children while strengthening the child protection system. Our efforts include home visits to assess household situations, support for children’s essential needs, psychological counseling, and community services.
  • Education: We empower children and adults and improve the learning environment to ensure equal opportunities for quality education. Our initiatives include Preschool and Alternative Education programs, Teacher Capacity Building programs, Community Development Center activities, and support for school supplies and uniforms.
  • Health: We enhance health awareness among children and adults, strengthen capacity-building, and improve the quality and accessibility of health facilities to support children’s health and well-being. Our activities include health check-ups and treatments, oral and reproductive health programs, and nutrition programs for children and communities.
  • Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH): We raise awareness about drinking water and hygiene among children and adults, and improve access to local drinking water and sanitation facilities. Our projects include WASH training, renovation of sanitation facilities, distribution of hygiene packages, and improvements to public well quality and accessibility in target communities.
  • Income Generation: We enhance the competitiveness of individuals and micro-entrepreneurs in the market, increase employment, and contribute to reducing economic inequality. Our programs support cooperatives, groups, and household micro-businesses, provide vocational education training, group development programs, and capacity-building training in finance and business management for community members.
  • Partnership and Network: We expand community-based cooperation and empower citizens to strengthen the Good Neighbors Network and ensure participation in local development. We organize Community Development Committees, volunteer programs, professional consulting teams, and projects aimed at fostering multilateral cooperation.
  • Environment: We raise public awareness about environmental pollution and climate change and support children and youth in combating these issues. Our activities include organizing Eco-club activities in schools, providing training on climate change and advocacy, and engaging students in the Global Youth Network program.
  • Advocacy: We promote children’s rights, increase their participation, and support the inclusion of public initiatives in government policies to create a child-friendly environment. Our initiatives include child rights campaigns and training, Child Rights Club activities, and social advocacy projects.
  • Disaster Risk Reduction and Emergency Response: We strengthen the adaptive and coping capacities of local communities through disaster prevention and emergency response activities. Our work includes organizing emergency response activities, disaster risk prevention training, and implementing short and long-term projects for disaster risk reduction.

Our interventions align with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Overall, we have contributed to 13 of the 17 goals, with the largest contributions being to SDGs 3 (Good Health and Well-Being), 4 (Quality Education), 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation), and 10 (Reduced Inequalities).
