Good Neighbors is a non-governmental organization in Tajikistan that commenced its operations in 1998 after being officially registered with the Ministry of Justice in Tajikistan. When Good Neighbors first entered Tajikistan, the country faced significant socio-economic challenges following its civil war, which ended in 1997. The primary objective was to address critical societal needs, including improving access to education and health cares, for children who have been the most vulnerable and affected populations.
Over the years, Good Neighbors has achieved several significant milestones. It has collaborated with various institutional, multilateral, and bilateral donors, such as GIZ, Swiss Development Cooperation, UNICEF, WFP, and the European Union. One notable achievement includes the successful advocacy for integrating Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) programs into national textbooks, which has greatly enhanced digital literacy across the country.
Today, Good Neighbors in Tajikistan implements initiatives in 6 community development programs in 40 districts and cities, aligned with Good Neighbors’ mission and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The organization focuses on education, including inclusive education, health, child protection, income generation, environmental conservation, disaster risk reduction, and community mobilization. This multifaceted approach addresses interconnected challenges, promoting sustainable development in Tajikistan.
Good Neighbors in Tajikistan aims to ensure that every child has access to quality education, healthcare, nutrition, and a safe and nurturing environment and empower children to express their opinions, participate in decision-making processes, and have their voices heard.
Our comprehensive program addresses diverse sectors, aligning with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). We enhance education (SDG 4), promote health (SDG 3), ensure clean water and sanitation (SDG 6), protect children’s rights (SDG 16), conserve the environment (SDG 15), and empower women (SDGs 1, 5, 8).
