Amman, August 8, 2024 – Good Neighbors Jordan has released a guidebook on terms and concept of environmental and climate issues, providing clear and concise explanations of 218 commonly used terms in the field of green growth. This publication marks a significant step in helping diverse actors in government and private sectors enhance their understanding of green growth and climate change.
The glossary is designed to make green growth terms and concepts more accessible for stakeholders’ effective participation in environmental issues. It includes terms from diverse sectors, such as agriculture, water, energy, waste management, tourism, and transport, which are identified in Jordanian national strategies but also applicable in the context of other countries. It primarily assists policymakers and students interested and engaged in climate action, but also entrepreneurs who seek to identify new opportunities for sustainable business practices and innovate in ways that contribute to environmental sustainability. Ultimately, it empowers people and communities to take meaningful action toward a more sustainable future.
The publication has been made possible through the collective effort, expertise, and dedication of numerous individuals and organizations. In particular, the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) has provided significant contributions with valuable input, strategic guidance, and support.
Good Neighbors remains committed to ensure people live in a sustainable environment and enjoy a better quality of life with less impact on the environment. The full report is available here.
Good Neighbors launched its mission in Jordan in July 2020, focusing on supporting vulnerable populations, including refugees, by addressing immediate humanitarian needs and promoting human rights and self-reliance. In 2021, we expanded our efforts to include long-term projects aimed at fostering sustainable community development. By 2022-2023, we had established partnerships and initiatives in 10 governorates, impacting 33 locations and 7 Palestinian camps, reaching 70 schools, and supporting 4,584 vulnerable girls, including 855 with disabilities.
Today, Good Neighbors Jordan operates in Amman, Mafraq, Irbid, and Zarqa, working across sectors such as livelihood, water and sanitation, climate change, localization, protection, child protection, psychosocial support, and the green economy. Our initiatives now benefit over 45,000 individuals, including Jordanians and refugees from Syria, Iraq, Yemen, Libya, Palestine, and beyond. Through solidarity and long-term partnerships, we continue to empower people and transform communities.
